Rough shaping on the Fire and Earth courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates is now complete and fine shaping 80% finished, according to a representative of the development.
Initial grassing has also begun, with rye grass being used to temporarily maintain the shape of bunkers, with Bermuda grass on the fairways. The courses will use TifEagle grass once complete.
The Fire and Earth courses are designed by Greg Norman. The development - set to be one of the largest golf communities in the world - also features two other courses, Water by Vijay Singh, and Wind, which has been jointly designed by Sergio Garcia, Pete Dye and Norman.
The original design of the Fire and Earth courses has been revised recently with some of the greens resized and a number of holes adjusted.
The Fire and Earth courses are expected to be completed end of 2008.
