Abu Dhabi: 'The Shark' has announced its arrival in Abu Dhabi. Greg Norman, after opening 60 courses worldwide and an additional 54 projects in various stages of development, signed a letter of intent to design another of his 18-hole Signature Golf Course at Bawabbat Abu Dhabi, a project being developed by Hydra properties.
Norman, representing the Greg Norman Golf Course Design (GNGCD) and Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim, CEO of Hydra Properties, signed the agreement yesterday for the course which has been termed 'unique' by the great golfing legend.
"This project is certainly going to be unique. Hydra has given us 50 per cent more space and this will help us unveil an innovative design with the focus on more green spaces and environment-friendly venue," said Norman.
"I am in awe of the progress in the UAE and this golf course will serve both the commercial as well as residential purpose," he said.
"With the kind of corridor being made available to us, the biggest so far, we are delighted to be part of this project. The focus will be on disturbing the least amount of earth and trying to preserve the flora of the region and bring the desert to life with green spaces," Norman added.
"Bawabbat Abu Dhabi will combine the growing popularity of golf in the UAE and the region with the best internationally recognised golf expert and environmentalist," said Dr. Sulaiman Al Fahim, CEO of Hydra Properties.
The new golf course at Bawabbat Abu Dhabi will be situated just five minutes from the Al Raha Beach and the design team is currently reviewing the golf course routing and land plan with a view to maximise the integration of golf with 27 low-rise residential buildings. "This project will also showcase Hydra Properties' commitment to improve the quality of the environment and increase awareness of the benefits of an environmentally designed and managed golf course.
"The project also draws on GNGCD's outstanding reputation for challenging, beautiful and, most importantly, environmentally sensitive courses," he said.
Jeffery Rossely of Majid Al Futtaim Development, who are executing the project for Hydra, said: "The site is located ideally and will play a critical and significant role to play in the future development. This partnership is a big step forward."
